why on earth do you want to put sasl configuration in /var?

weird, could you please do an ls -l of 
/var/spool/postfix/var/lib/sasl2/mux
and all path components?

did you play with symbolic links under the postfix spool directory?

you told postfix that the sasl configuration file is in /usr/lib/sasl2
