The Teapot Experiment True log of the teapot experiment in action!Human nature is always to question, so when the seemingly harmless act of placing a little red teapot in the center of a room for absolutely no reason whatsoever occurs the results can be startling. Herein is contained the data I have gathered on the subject. How to perform the Teapot Experiment You need:
Sit back and watch the debate :-) Results Here's a log of an IRC session involving the placing of a little Red Teapot in the center of a channel. Interesting! teapot the IRC bot sits quite happily minding it's own business (for no reason) on the Undernet. I actually place it in several channels, usually at random and just let it be. The original #nildram and #ircbar channels have gotten very used to teapot and he's viewed as a part of the crockery in there, I imagine they have had a fair amount of brews from him by now. Most are aware that he's part of a twisted social experiment, of course... Occasionally I check the /msg log. Some people have managed to have hour long conversations. I don't know why. Who's behind all this? The original person behind the whole idea is Kelvin Phillips. Doing awkward things like this too poor unsuspecting members of the public is a hobby of his. Yes, he really does own a little red teapot. FAQ I get asked the same questions about the experiment, here's the answers: Does it need to be full? Well, does it really matter? But yes, by all means fill it. With what? It's a teapot - you fill it with tea. Stop being silly. Why not coffee? That's what coffee pots are for. If we were going to fill it with coffee this would be the Coffee Pot Experiment. I suspect the results of placing a coffee pot in the middle of a room full of unsuspecting individuals would have similar results, though. Why red? Why not blue or some other colour? Or indeed, green - it's irrelevant, I just happen to be fond of red ones. You can use any colour you like. Can I use a tea cosy too? Yes, it keeps the tea warm. Are you mad? Oh yes, absolutely.
